SFW HUB 2022

BRISTOL BEACON

The SFW Hub was a place for sharing information, learning new skills, feeling the joy of clothing and exploring what sustainability in fashion means.

We took over the whole foyer in the iconic Bristol Beacon, with something to explore on each of the four layers - from our curated market packed with sustainable makers through to an augmented reality experience in our Repair Room.

  • SFW MARKET

We curated an exciting mix of clothing and accessories - with each maker producing items that fit with our four themes - REWEAR, REPURPOSE, REGENERATE and RECONNECT. From vintage and preloved, through amazing repurposing to sustainable new, there was a wonderful range on offer.

  • TALKS // PANELS // PRESENTATIONS

As part of the annual SFW Hub we invite industry speakers to join us and share their knowledge and experience with our audience. As well as giving us information about fashion’s supply chain and its impact, we aim for our talks to offer resources, giving us tips and signposts to support us in changing our relationship with fashion.

This year we had a range of talks, panel discussions and presentations.

  • WORKSHOPS

We had a range of free workshops on offer as a new addition to our annual Hub programming. With basic intro sessions for those of you just starting out with sewing; a couple of workshops for kids and then some more creative workshops that explored upcycling for carnival, for drag and to contribute to our commission piece, displayed as part of the MShed’s ‘Think Global, Act Bristol’ exhibition.

  • CLOTHES SWAP

In 2022 we have been touring our clothes swap around Bristol, in our bi-monthly Stitch & Switches. It popped up in the Bristol Beacon… giving our visitors the chance to refresh their wardrobes with something preloved.

  • FILM ROOM

In our Film Room we had a rolling schedule of films and recordings, giving our audience a deeper dive into the challenges the fashion industry faces.

  • REPAIR ROOM

We had a whole room dedicated to repair! In here were our SFW repairers who were mending the minor damage on our visitors favourite items.

We also had presentations from the amazing Repair What You Wear AND if that wasn’t enough…

We had an amazing, unique augmented reality experience - looking at repair through virtual eyes from the team at Layerable.

  • JUNK KOUTURE EXHIBITION

We had the pleasure of exhibiting creations from the brilliant Junk Kouture. Incredible high-end pieces from 100% recycled materials.

  • STYLISTS CORNER

Our pal Becky Barnes Style offered 1 to 1 styling sessions for our visitors.

Knowing our personal style is one of the foundations to a low-impact wardrobe - helping us avoid impulse buying and know which charity shop gem is right for us.
